Peshawar Zalmi is an elite T20 cricket franchise in Pakistan that is a part of the Pakistan Super League. They’ve been participating in the league since its inaugural season in the year 2015 and also are the PSL season 3 champions. The city they represent is KPK Peshawar and their home stadium is the Arbab Niaz Stadium.

Numerous International or National level players are part of them. Many former international cricketers are on the management and coaching team. They also have the largest sports franchise in Pakistan valued at over 40 million dollars. The current captain is Wahab Riaz while the head coach is James Foster.

Ownership History

The franchise was purchased by Javed Afridi, who is the proprietor of Haier for the amount of US$16 million over 10 years. It was among the first franchises to be acquired by PSL. PSL 2016 Season 1

Peshawar Zalmi kicked off their campaign in a positive manner during the initial season, winning the opening two games of the tournament. They then lost the other two. They then won the remaining six matches and were able to qualify for the playoffs. Unfortunately, they were eliminated by losing both of these matches.

They came first in the table of points with 12 points following a win of 6 of the 8 matches during the group stage.

PSL 2017 Season 2

Peshawar Zalmi changed their lineup prior to the start of the next season. They swapped Aamer Yamin for Sohaib Maqsood in exchange for Lahore Qalandars. Ten players were kept and numerous big names like Eoin Morgan, Chris Jordan, and Shakib Al Hasan were added. Peshawar Zalmi was selected for the playoffs despite remaining at the top of the league’s points table.

They took 4 wins out of their total eight games, and one game was not a success. They qualified for the playoffs but lost their first qualifying match in Quetta and then beat Karachi Kings in the eliminator game and qualified to play in the finals. They were again in the finals against Quetta Gladiators and beat them by 58 runs to win the PSL trophy for the first time in history.

PSL 2018 Season 3

In the opening game of the season, they fell to the team that was formed by Multan Sultans by 7 wickets. They also won their second game in the match against Islamabad United. Peshawar Zalmi was then able to qualify for play-offs, where they faced Quetta and Karachi to make it to the finals.

They won the group stage getting third place on the table of points by winning five out of the 10 matches. They fell to Islamabad United in the final game and finished the tournament as runners-up.

PSL 2019 Season 4

Peshawar Zalmi began the season in a losing position in the first match, losing to Quetta Gladiators by 6 wickets. They went on to win the majority of matches and qualify for the playoffs. They were among the best teams in the tournament.

They finished at the top of the table with 14 points. They won 7 out of the 10 group games. In the qualifier game, they fell the match to Quetta Gladiators and faced Islamabad United in the final and beat them. In the final game, they were defeated by Quetta Gladiators and finished as runners-up.

PSL 2020 Season 5

In this tournament, they fell in the first match and their third matches but won the second and fourth matches from their first 4 matches in the competition. They were among the top contenders to win the PSL trophy this time around. Peshawar Zalmi qualified for the playoffs but were eliminated in the first playoff match.

Peshawar Zalmi was fourth on the table of points with 9 points. They won 4 out of the 10 matches in the group. One match did not yield a result.

PSL 2021 Season 6

This season, Peshawar Zalmi started the season by losing but then they won the next three games to get their momentum. They finished third on the table of points with 10 points after they were able to win five out of their 10 group matches and were able to qualify for the playoffs stage.

In the playoffs, Peshawar Zalmi won two eliminator games against Karachi Kings and Islamabad United in order to advance to the semi-final against Multan Sultans, where they fell by 47 runs.

PSL 2022 Season 7

Peshawar Zalmi won its opening game of the year defeating Quetta Gladiators by 5 wickets but they lost their next two matches against Lahore and Islamabad. They came third at the top of the points table, scoring 12 points, having been able to win six out of the 10 group matches, and were then able to qualify for the playoffs stage.

They were eliminated in the first playoff game as they were defeated by Islamabad United by 5 wickets and ended up 4th in the tournament.

PSL 2023 Season 8

The 8th edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) is just around the corner and we couldn’t be more excited! This year’s tournament will see some new changes. The date for the 8th season of the Pakistan Super League has been revealed. PSL-8 would be conducted from February 13th to March 19th, 2023.
