Complete list of player trades and retentions before the Pakistan Super League

Today we are discussing about retained players PSL 2023. In the Pakistan Super League, Babar Azam has left the Karachi Kings and will play for Peshawar Zalmi, the complete list of players retained and exchanged before the PSL 2023 is available here.

In a trade with Karachi Kings, Peshawar Zalmi acquired Pakistan’s all-format captain Babar in exchange for Haider Ali and Shoaib Malik. The right-hander formerly played for Islamabad United before spending six years with Karachi. Prior to the PSL 8 season, each of the six clubs is permitted to keep eight players, however, Peshawar is the only team to keep seven.

After the retentions, there will be a draft in which teams can choose up to 18 players for PSL 2023. The classifications of players are Platinum, Diamond, Gold, Silver, Emerging, and Supplementary. Franchises must choose cricketers from each category. A team can choose two players from the remaining categories and three players from the first three categories.

The sole player for Peshawar Zalmi in the Platinum category is Babar Azam, who played for Islamabad United before going on to Karachi Kings. In the eighth season of the HBL Pakistan Super League, Babar Azam, the most productive batter in the competition’s history and the captain of Pakistan’s all-format team, will wear the colors of Peshawar Zalmi.

Only Babar Azam represents Peshawar Zalmi in the Platinum division; he previously played for Islamabad United before joining Karachi Kings. Mohammad Haris, whose brave batting has lightened up the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, is in Gold, while Wahab Riaz and Sherfane Rutherford are in Diamond. Only Peshawar Zalmi has seven players left on its roster.

Shoaib joins Imad Wasim and Mohammad Amir in the Diamond division, while Haider is the lone player from Karachi in the Platinum division. They kept Qasim Akram in the Emerging group and Sharjeel Khan, Mir Hamza, and Aamir Yamin in the Silver level.

The defending champion Lahore Qalandars have kept their skipper Shaheen Afridi and Rashid Khan in the Platinum division. David Wiese, an all-around player, remains in the Diamond category. Haris Rauf serves as a brand ambassador, Zaman Khan enters the Emerging category, Kamran Ghulam and Harry Brook remain in the Silver category, while Abdullah Shafique remains in the Gold category.

The middle-order batsmen Khushdil Shah and Rilee Rossouw in the Diamond division and Tim David in the Gold division for Multan Sultans, the 2021 champions and finalists, have been kept. Their only Platinum-level retainer is Mohammad Rizwan, their captain and the player of the HBL PSL 2021 with the most runs scored in T20 Internationals since the year 2021 began. Tim David is joined in the Gold category by fast bowler Shahnawaz Dahani, who has been designated the Multan Sultans’ Brand Ambassador.

Shadab Khan, the captain of Islamabad United, which won the first and third editions in 2016 and 2018 respectively, is still competing in the Platinum division. With Asif Ali serving as the Brand Ambassador and Mohammad Wasim Jr. remaining in the Diamond, two players have been retained. With United in Gold, Azam Khan, Faheem Ashraf, and Hasan Ali will stay on.

Mohammad Nawaz, who has been a member of the Quetta Gladiators since the first edition, has been kept on as the Platinum. The Diamond division keeps Jason Roy and Iftikhar Ahmed. Their captain, Sarfaraz Ahmed, and brand ambassador Mohammad Hasnain are in the Gold division.

The Right to Match Card will allow each of the six teams, like it did last year, to select any player who is removed from their roster during the draft.

Pakistan Super League Teams 2023

We have discussed al the retained players for PSL 8 above and now here’s the brief introduction of all of the Pakistan Super League teams:

Lahore Qalandars

Lahore Qalandars is a professional cricket team from Pakistan that competes in the Pakistan Super League on behalf of Lahore. The team’s home field is Gaddafi Stadium. The Rana Brothers are the team’s owners. Shaheen Afridi serves as the team’s captain at the moment, and former Pakistani cricketer Aaqib Javed serves as the team’s coach.

It was one of the few teams sold to an overseas firm and the second most expensive franchise. Before making its first appearance in the PSL final in the 2020 season, the squad placed last in each of the first four seasons’ point standings. After that, the team returned to the PSL in 2022 and won the season.

Islamabad United

Pakistan’s Islamabad United is a professional Twenty20 cricket franchise side that plays in the Pakistan Super League (PSL). It was the Pakistan Super League’s first champion. The team was established in 2015 to participate in the inaugural Pakistan Super League season and is situated in Islamabad, the nation’s capital.

Through its sports organization Leonine Global Sports, which is controlled by Amna and Ali Naqvi, Leonine Global Investments, the franchise. The franchise’s general manager is Rehan Ul Haq, the strategy manager is Hassan Cheema, and Azlan Khan is in charge of operations and logistics. The team defeated Quetta Gladiators in the opening final to win the first PSL championship. They defeated Peshawar Zalmi by three wickets in the PSL final to win their second championship, making them the most successful franchise in league history in terms of titles won (two).

Karachi Kings

Karachi Kings, sometimes known as KK, is a professional Twenty20 cricket team from Pakistan that participates in the Pakistan Super League (PSL). The squad was established in 2015 as a result of the Pakistan Cricket Board’s creation of the Pakistan Super League and is based in Karachi, the provincial capital of Sindh, Pakistan (PCB). National Bank Cricket Arena is where the team plays its home games.

Peter Moores presently serves as the team’s head coach. After defeating their rival Lahore Qalandars in the championship game on November 17, 2020, they earned their first PSL championship in PSL V.

Multan Sultans

Multan Sultans is a professional Twenty20 franchise cricket team from Pakistan that competes in the Pakistan Super League on behalf of Multan, a city in southern Pakistan (PSL). The franchise was established in 2017 as the PSL’s sixth new team. The Multan Cricket Stadium is where the team plays its home games.

Schön Properties, who had purchased the team in 2017 but failed to pay the annual fee, had their contract canceled after their first season. In December 2018, a group led by the principal shareholder Alamgir Khan Tareen and Ali Khan Tareen took over ownership of the squad. Alamgir Khan Tareen became the business’s sole owner in 2021.

The 2021 season marked the team’s first PSL championship.

Peshawar Zalmi

Peshawar Zalmi is a T20 cricket franchise from Pakistan that competes in the Pakistan Super League and represents Peshawar, the provincial capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Javed Afridi is the owner of the team. Peshawar Zalmi was founded in 2015 when the Pakistan Cricket Board announced the first season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) (PCB). Currently, the team’s captain is Wahab Riaz, and the head coach is Daren Sammy.

Wahab Riaz takes the most wickets for the team, while Kamran Akmal scores the most runs overall.

Quetta Gladiators

The Pakistan Super League features Quetta Gladiators, a professional Twenty20 cricket team from Pakistan (PSL). The 27,000-seat Gaddafi Stadium is where they play the majority of their home games. The Gladiators triumphed and won the PSL 2019 championship. The team’s official base of operations is in Quetta, Pakistan’s Balochistan province’s capital.

The PSL, which was created by the Pakistan Cricket Board, led to the establishment of the franchise in 2015. (PCB). The team plays its home games at Bugti Stadium. Former Pakistani wicket-keeper Moin Khan is the team’s coach, and Sarfaraz Ahmed serves as the team’s captain. Azam Khan serves as the team’s manager. Assistant coach Abdul Razzaq is in charge.

Sarfaraz Ahmed scores the most runs for the team, while Mohammad Nawaz takes the most wickets.
