Quetta Gladiators – Preview

Quetta Gladiators is a professional T20 cricket franchise in Pakistan that plays in the Pakistan Super League PSL Cricket league. They’ve been participating in the league since its inaugural season in the year 2015 and also are the champions for the 2019 season. The team represents the capital in Balochistan as well as has participated in the majority of its games at the National Stadium Karachi and their home stadium has been Bugti Stadium.

The franchise is controlled by Nadeem Omar. Numerous former international cricketers are part of it, such as the Head Coach, who is famous cricket wicketkeeper Moeen Khan, while Abdul Razzaq is their Assistant Coach. Azam Khan is the team’s manager.

The most prolific run-scorer in the team is Sarfraz Ahmed and Muhammad Nawaz is their top wicket-taker.

Ownership History

The franchise was transferred to Omar Associates in 2015 for the sum of US$11 million. Nadeem Omar owns Quetta Gladiators since the owners are the same from the very beginning until now.

The Team’s Identity as well as Sponsors and Partners

The logo of the team, kit, and name were revealed at two separate ceremonies in January 2016 by the team’s owner Nadeem Omer. The logo is a representation of the ancient Rome armor worn by gladiators of the time. Two bats are found on the helmet that represents swords. The primary colors are golden and purple. The motto is “Kai Kai Quetta” meaning that we’re coming.

In 2016, the shirt front sponsor was Edenrobe, the shirt’s back was sponsored by ACM Gold and the sleeve branding by PTV Sports and Zong.

In 2017, the shirt front sponsor was Jubilee Insurance, the shirt’s back was sponsored by Omar Associates, front branding by Master Oil and the sleeve branding by PTV Sports.

In 2018, the shirt front sponsor was Engro, the shirt’s back was sponsored by Olpers, front branding by Master Oil and the sleeve branding by Engro Foods.

In 2019, the shirt front sponsor was Engro, the shirt’s back was sponsored by Olpers, front branding by Master Oil and the sleeve branding by Engro Foods.

In 2020, the shirt front sponsor was Engro, the shirt’s back was sponsored by Engro, front branding by Master Oil and the sleeve branding by KFC, Ignite and Jang.

In 2021, the shirt front sponsor was BBR Group, the shirt’s back was sponsored by Lotte Choco Pie, front branding by BBR Group and the sleeve branding by KFC, Soneri Bank and Berocca.

In 2022, the shirt front sponsor was BBR Group, the shirt’s back was sponsored by Meiji, front branding by BBR Group and the sleeve branding by Hemani, Soneri Bank and KFC.

Quetta Gladiators PSL History

PSL 2016 Season 1

Quetta Gladiators began their campaign with some big names during their first season. Kevin Peterson, Ahmed Shehzad, Grant Elliot, and Sarfraz Ahmed were on the team. They took three wins in their initial match in the group against Islamabad United, Peshawar, and Karachi. They were second on the table of points with 12 points, having won six of their eight matches in the group.

They were able to comfortably qualify for playoffs. In the qualifier game, they prevailed by just 1 run against Peshawar Zalmi in a thrilling. They lost in the final match to Islamabad United by 6 wickets and came out as runners-up.

PSL 2017 Season 2

In the first week of the season that followed, Quetta Gladiators shuffled their players after they let go of Kumar Sangakkara and signed many new players such as David Willey and Tymel Mills. They began their campaign at the top of the table by defeating Lahore Qalandars in their first match. The tournament developed and the group stage came to an end they won four out of eight matches. one game was drawn.

Quetta Gladiators placed second on the points table, scoring 9 points. They qualified for the play-off phase in which they played Peshawar Zalmi. They defeated the latter by 3 wickets in order to qualify for the finals. In the final game they again played against Peshawar and this time, they lost. They also finished the tournament as runners-up.

PSL 2018 Season 3

This year’s season Quetta Gladiators fell short of their entire winning streak in the match against Karachi Kings in their first game. In their next game, they recovered their momentum winning against Lahore Qalandars by 9 wickets. They won five out of the 10 matches and ended up in 4th on the points table when the final stage of the group.

They qualified for the playoffs but fell in the playoffs to Peshawar Zalmi by one run in the final match. The match ended the tournament.

PSL 2019 Season 4

Quetta Gladiators started their campaign with a bang by beating Peshawar Zalmi by six wickets. They won 7 of 10 group games and finished 2nd in the points table with 14 points. Gladiators quickly qualified for the playoffs and played Peshawar in their first qualifying match.

They were able to defeat Peshawar and advance to the finals where they must face Peshawar. The final game was a thrilling one and Quetta defeated Peshawar by 10 runs, becoming champions and winning the PSL trophy for the first time.

PSL 2020 Season 5

Quetta Gladiators began the season as champions in the title race and were victorious in their first game in the league against Islamabad United but lost in the following match with Peshawar Zalmi. The Quetta’s performance in this match was not great since they were eliminated at the group stage, and ended up in 5th position on the points table.

They managed to win only 4 of 10 games in the group stage.

PSL 2021 Season 6

The entire season proved to be a complete disaster for Quetta Gladiators. Quetta Gladiators only managed to beat only two group games from Lahore Qalandars and Multan Sultans. They came in last in the tournament, scoring just 4 points. Their NRR was also poor, at -1.786.

PSL 2022 Season 7

Quetta Gladiators started their campaign on a sour note when they lost to Peshawar by five wickets. In their second game, they outscore Karachi Kings comprehensively by 8 wickets. They won 4 of their 10 games and finish in 5th with 8 points following the Group Stage.

They were not able to get into the playoffs stage.

PSL 2023 Season 8

The 8th edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) is just around the corner and we couldn’t be more excited! This year’s tournament will see some new changes. The date for the 8th season of the Pakistan Super League has been revealed. PSL-8 would be conducted from February 13th to March 19th, 2023.
